Zora Neale Hurston Festival

Orlando Florida home of Mickey Mouse, Orlando Magic and where you can get a nice pair of Italian shoes from one of the various outlets was the host of the 22nd Anniversary Celebration of the Zora Neale Hurston Festival of the Arts and Humanities. In the spirit of Black History Month numerous vendors, artisans and entertainers were present to celebrate the life and accomplishments of this wonderful human being. The pleasure was truly ours to be an integral part of health awareness through interactive demonstrations and pallet pleasing tastings.

Commissioned by Blue Cross Blue Shield, Be Organic hosted a total of nine cooking demonstrations for public attendance. You heard of the house that Jack built well this became the tent that Be Organic built. Sheltered from the elements, the aromas danced through the air appealing to the senses drawing all partakers to hear the message which was “Health is Wealth”.  Featuring our meatless vegetarian lettuce wraps and showcasing our honey mango sauce was not only a hit but left many in disbelief from flavor overload. Most eating habits stem from tradition and we challenged over 300 people a day to step outside their comfort zone and experience what food was meant to be. Who said organic food couldn’t taste good? In the wake of deep fried happiness that many people chose to indulge; Be Organic’s light nutrient packed delicacy was an instant hit. The organic trio took the opportunity to enlighten, empathize and network with all willing green conscious participants. In addition to our offerings the opportunity presented itself to walk the hallowed grounds of Eatonville, the first freed slave colony. Needless to say the feeling was overwhelming as we stopped and talked with natives that shared the history and accomplishments of this great town. The impact was mutual and we look forward to revisiting the “Town that freedom built”.
